Two months after OldTown we’ve set our sails to Poland once again, but for another LARP game Łyżkon, Oct.21-24, somewhere close to Poznan.
This is a game ran by one of OldTown factions - Alcochemists and is set in the same universe as OldTown.
Mechanics: Airsoft\NERF
Locations: Several buildings of abandoned military barracks
Drinks: Very strong
Foods: Tasty and lots
Humans: Not everyone deserve to die, but who am I to argue with Bender?
The game in terms of mechanics is similar to OldTown: city is a safe heaven with a restriction for airsoft guns, outer space is full of raiders (forest and several missile? hangars), different activities like Arena, lectures and pole dancers (Woop woop!).
Not sure how many people were there, but two or so hundred people. Overall atmosphere is pretty chill and it’s noticeable that most of the people came to see friends and hangout in a cool party environment. Honestly because of rainy weather I didn’t wonder much around the wasteland myself.
Location is rather nice as well and despite the weather I didn’t take a tent with me and was sleeping in the abandoned barracks with no windows, heating and room service. Many people take warm cloth and lots of blankets for the night, but I was all fine with only a +7° sleeping bag.
One survival tip for those staying not in your tent, but in barracks - take something to cover your daily cloth, bags, etc. Whitewash is more dangerous than any shit I’ve seen on any post-apoc or drink-til-you-can’t-feel-feelings-anymore festivals. After just two days of laying still on the same spot - all my bags and stuff were white as heaven.
Everything else as usual: take your personal tourist stuff. Think your head, don’t be a baby.
The only thing, I think, you don’t need to worry is a spoon. After registration you will get your own... Personal!.. with your character name... spoon.
Fabula
This years main story was spinning around some new mineral Lyzkonit and of course everyone was raiding to get it, trade, use or turn into pure Lyzkonium. Chemistry!
LARP
Everything started on Friday around 12:00-14:00 and lasted till Saturday 18:00, so it’s like a day and a half or so.
Owners of the city made a short intro, welcomed everyone, injured guards were dragged into the city and the game started.
All of the stuff was in Polish, so I understood shit. But again - people are very welcoming and always will help you with translations and during the game no one had any issues speaking English.
I didn’t notice any global events happening in the city, mostly people were running around completing their personal/faction quests. We’ve got couple ourselves just asking city Mayor? (dunno how they call him) and reward was worth it. I admit, if you need to raise some cash or medicines before OldTown - go to Lyzkon! Yes, except for caps and bullets - items are also the same as at OldTown. And if I’m not wrong - you can even change Lyzkon caps for OldTown caps (but you know about those damn capitalistic exchange rates).
Another addition to game mechanics were NERF guns. They were allowed (at OldTown they were used only by NPCs as taser guns), they were equal to airsoft guns and you could use them inside the city! But you had to challenge someone for a duel first. Though I wouldn’t be surprised, if you’d found out about that after you’ve been killed and stripped of caps. War never changes.
Except for questing and raiding there were different activities like Arena, lecture room, temple with old gaming consoles, pole dancing in the bar, drinking in the bar, drunk pole dancing in the bar.

Party
It’s an Alcochemist gig and, if you’ve been to their bar at OldTown you know what to wait. Lots of drinking, lots of dancing and a good company. On the last day everyone were dancing till the last to the DJs, but some nerds who had a bus back home had to go to bed early.
Overall it’s a nice event, but I would say pretty short one. It has very chill atmosphere, which you can use to build up relations with biggest OldTown factions and other people. Maybe it’s not the best option to travel from abroad for in fact 2 day event, just because of a long road, but, if you’re planning a long trip to different gigs - put Lyzkon on your road map.
